The Irresistible Force is the project of DJ Mixmaster Morris Gould and Kira Kira is a beautifully layered soundscape to be experienced more so than just heard. It is most assuredly an exceptional audio collection but it is also an amazingly immersive and relaxing musical showcase in the ambient sense as well. This album draws on eastern influences not only sonically but in an almost meditative capacity and this lends to it a dimension that is unique to Gould’s style. He not only regales one with his talents as a producer but almost as a masseur for one’s consciousness which is a major part of what ambient and chill music should be about. It is very often my style to describe albums on a piece-by-piece basis but it almost doesn’t seem to do Kira Kira justice to employ this approach because it is so exquisitely presented as a cohesive unit. That is not to say that the individual songs are without merit but that they fit together in sequence so fascinatingly well that it seems sorrowful to ignore the whole composition. Personal favorites include Warmer Than The Sun, Beautiful Time, Suikinkutsu and Puretone. This album is an excellent companion for an evening of reading or entertaining and it definitely provides a magnificent vibe as a backdrop or a centerpiece.
